Our latest Hot Topic Summary Report, a regular feature in which we survey buy-side analysts and portfolio managers for their input on a variety of topics affecting the financial and investment communities, explores the ways investor relations teams can increase value.

In the past, Hot Topics have explored Brexit, social media, what differentiates the best IR teams, tax reform and more. Last time, we discussed the ways IR teams can increase value and today we’re focusing on how important a solid IR program actually us.

We asked a wide collection of buy-side analysts, portfolio managers, and Chief Investment Officers across multiple sectors the following question:

“How strongly do investors value a good IR program in a company and do investors assign a premium or discount to the share price of a company based on the program?”
86% of the respondents mentioned that investors value a good IR program. An analyst at a $1.6B growth-based investment manager stated, “We definitely value good data and communication from the IR team to help us understand the businesses that we own.
